Meet Mayra

A Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Founder of: Mylah Mindful Therapy

Hi, my name is Mayra Penaloza. I am a bilingual, Spanish speaking Licensed Therapist. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from California State University, Los Angeles, and then achieved my Master of Social Work at California Baptist University.

With 10 years of experience, I have had the privilege of working with children, adolescents, adults, and older adults across a variety of settings. My professional background includes foster care, psychiatric units, hospitals as a medical social worker, hospice and palliative care, community mental health, and private practice. These experiences have allowed me to support individuals across their lifespan from the beginning of life through the end of life.

In 2019, I traveled to Africa to attend a trauma informed training, an experience that deepened my understanding of healing and confirmed that providing therapy is my true calling. I now specialize in supporting individuals who are experiencing anxiety, grief and loss, relationship issues, and life transitions.

In my spare time: I enjoy trying new restaurants sitting outdoors, and people watching. I love traveling, making memories, and spending quality time with my family and friends.

Why I Do This Work

Well listen! I originally wanted to be a Spanish Teacher, BUT life just loves to work in mysterious ways. My path into this field began with my work in foster care, where I first recognized the profound impact of supporting and empowering others. That experience sparked my passion for helping individuals navigate life’s challenges and ultimately led me to pursue a career in therapy.

I became a Psychotherapist because I’ve seen how powerful it is when someone feels truly heard…Many people silently struggle with anxiety and self doubt… But then you know that moment when you finally talk about something you’ve been keeping inside for months or years? Your shoulders drop, you take a deep breath, and you feel a small wave of relief. That moment happens often in therapy.

I’m passionate about creating a safe space where you can feel heard, validated and also challenged at times, yes I said it, challenged…

Speaking to someone about your worries or troubles can feel weird at first… but trust the process. Once we begin to built rapport, that’s when change can begin to happen.
